This week I’m talking to you about why I love planning in the winter time. Now, it will come as no surprise to anyone who knows me that I like a good plan! and I LOVE getting out my favourite stationery (currently using a rather lovely fountain pen with purple ink, and my favourite floral printed notebook), sitting down and just having a good old scribble. I might write a list, I may draw a spider diagram. Of course, at any time of the year you can sit down with some lovely stationery and write some lists, but it’s great to be able to give yourself time and space to make your plans, and the winter time is a great opportunity to do this…let me tell you why….
Winter is naturally a time of year when everything is a bit slower. In nature, plants and trees become dormant, animals hibernate, it’s cold so you don’t want to be outside all the time…it‘s a perfect time to hunker down, get cosy, slow down the pace of life (particularly when it gets dark really early). It might be that you curl up on your favourite chair next to a lovely warm fire, a blanket and a hot chocolate. It’s a time of year that naturally makes you want to draw inwards, get cosy…and Winter lends itself really well to this.
Slowing down gives you the opportunity to reflect on things. You might want to reflect on the whole year, or just simply reflecting on certain things in connection with your plans. Christmas and New Year are typically a time of year when people start reflecting on the calendar year gone by.
Christmas and New Year can be a good time of year to start planning – and I’m not talking about making a hundred new year’s resolutions (let’s face it, we’ve all made those over the years and how many have we achieved ?!). You could use the darker evenings to sit and plan (because your not going out as much as you might in the summer for instance). It could be that you use the time in between christmas and new year for your planning (that week in between the two festivities can, for some, be ‘dead time’ where nothing much is happening.
Use your time to think about what it is that you want from your ceremony – no matter the life event that you are celebrating. Maybe you already have ideas and know what you want, – then now is the time to start thinking about how you’re going to make it happen and achieve your dream ceremony! Use that calm in between christmas and new year to get focused and clear of what you really want and how you’re going to get it so you can step into January fresh and ready to move forward with your event!
So, get your stationery out (or whatever your favourite method of recording your thoughts and notes is!), sit down, give yourself some space to think about what you want for your ceremony.
